Having used the first generation of the Aerial Exposures mount for more that 14
hours I must say that the new version has made significant improvements. The
addition of the ball swivel on the main support shaft is the best improvement.
This allows me to easily control the orientation of the horizontal (dutch)
orientation of the camera. The gyros and bottom-heavy setup also assist in
keeping the camera level. There is no vibration evident on the tape from a
recent test flight. The other improvement is the swivel base. This allows for
better pans without hitting the upright supports of the bracket. Without the
overhead support the clearance allows me to mount any of my cameras.
While this system still won't allow super tight shots of distance objects that
you can get from far more expensive gimbals this is a good choice for budget
productions. At consistent speeds you can get excellent orbits of close objects
and tracking shots of boats, aircraft, and nearby automobiles. With the
properly skilled pilot who can smoothly crab the chopper you can also get decent
straight in/out shots.
